Pride is a powerful thing, and it can help us power through many problems and obstacles.  There are times however, when pride can just make us plain stubborn, and this can be dangerous.  This deadly sin makes us think we can do anything, and when you’re dealing with mold, it’s deadly indeed, especially if you don’t know what you’re doing.  Now, according to the EPA, when mold occupies only 10 square feet of an area of your home, it is possible to take care of it yourself.  If your mold problem reaches the 30 square foot or greater mark, though, you may want to ease up on the self-help tactic.  If you’re no expert, then just let go of your pride, and let the professionals take over. But who should you call?  A good mold removal service.  But how do you know who’s capable for the job?  Well, that’s another matter entirely.

Selecting a good service to take care of your fungal problem can be a daunting task, if you want to be thorough about it that is.  Finding a service isn’t hard; just type it up on your favorite search engine, and a whole bunch of names should come up in your area.  But if you want them to do a good job, a few precautionary measures should be undertaken. 

There aren’t any regulatory certifications or standards for these companies, so businesses that show you all kinds of proof of legitimacy might just be pulling your leg.  There are states that require licenses, but not all of them do.  What you should look into though, is the length of time a service has been around.  A mold removal company that has been operating for a long period of time shows it possesses experience and a loyal customer base.  This is not enough to trust a company blindly, though, and checking testimonials is another thing you can do.  Check customer comments, preferably not on the service’s home site, because those are the most easily contrived, and see if anything negative has been said.  One or two bad feedbacks can’t be helped, as the unexpected can happen on both sides.  If there are more than a few, then just move on.  Nevertheless, testimonials can still be tricky, as there are people that can make that stuff up.  The best advice you can get, is from a trusted person like a friend or family member that has received good service.  The Better Business Bureau is also a good source of criticism for the company you are checking up on.

Again, knowing the service is experienced and reputable is not enough.  You have to know if they, specifically, are right for you and your problem.  There are all kinds of mold removal contractors, and they specialize in different dilemmas.  Some take care of bathrooms only and some only remove mold from machinery.  There are those good at a number of removal methods, but they should have a specialty so check what it is.  No matter how good a company is though, make sure they can be contacted right away in case of emergency.   Ask for a hotline or something similar to ensure that you will be able to stave off disaster.
