Natural Remedies for Mold

Are you familiar with those books that provide easily accessible or obtainable home remedies to all sorts of common problems?  Surely you’ve run into those household tips in magazines that explain how you can repair all sorts of things with stuff that you may just have lying around in your backyard or kitchen.  You may have even attempted some of these unconventional solutions, and experienced pleasant surprise when they actually worked.  The truth of why these natural remedies works is that they contain chemicals that have been proven to work against the problem through scientific research and collective experience.  As such, it would not be unreasonable to assume that, in the absence of a specially formulated mold remover or cleanser, you may be able to whip up your very own mold solution with a trip to the store and a little effort.

When it comes to dealing with mold, boric acid may just be your best friend – it is a natural substance that manifests in seawater and certain types of fruit, and you can buy it in crystalline granules.  Boric acid is a potent antiseptic, and is typically used to clean and treat fungal and yeast infections, as well as acne, which strikes as a result of bacterial infection.  Of course, one should avoid ingesting or inhaling it, as the stuff is only meant for external use.  To get rid of your moldy woes, create an effective mold-killing solution by mixing three parts water, one part hydrogen peroxide and one cup of boric acid.  This composite liquid will eradicate any mold that it comes in contact with, and prevent future mold from growing in the treated area.  If you want the boric acid solution to last longer, it has been suggested that you replace one part of the water with white vinegar.

To apply the solution, first thoroughly moisten the mold with it so that the spores do not spread into the air when you start scrubbing.  Then, scrub layer after layer of mold away, pouring in more solution as you go.  Once the mold has been removed completely, soak the area with more solution, so that it reaches mold that may be lingering beyond reach.

Another effective natural remedy for mold is tea tree oil, which possesses both antibacterial and antifungal traits.  You can buy tea tree oil at your local health food store.  Make sure to purchase the 100 percent pure solution, as you will be diluting it for your mold eradication purposes.  Also pick up an empty plastic spray bottle of about one liter or larger for storage and deployment of your solution.  Fill the bottle with one part tea tree oil and seven parts water, then shake it vigorously until it is thoroughly mixed.

Now, spray any mold that you encounter with the tea tree mixture.  Don’t scrimp on the solution – try to soak the mold in the substance.  Take a dry sponge afterwards and use it to rub the mixture into the mold, which will kill it.

These two easy-to-make remedies should work on most lesser instances of mold contamination.
