Tilex Mold and Mildew Remover
Some people have this fear of closing their eyes in the
bathroom. Sometimes, it’s due to an
irrational dread of a monster of some sort popping out of nowhere.
For some, the fear is probably a little more realistic: mold.
The bathroom is the most ideal
environment for this fungal fiend to grow. Seriously,
how can anyone comfortably take a bath with their eyes open, with all of
that filthy residue growing on the walls? It’s
quite easy to freak out in the face of that horror, but you shouldn’t.
There are many ways to bust your mold
contamination problem. In the case of
Tilex Mold and Mildew Remover, though, you're probably not going to get a
complete solution.
The active ingredient in Tilex is sodium hypochlorite,
more commonly known as bleach. Whatever
other ingredient shown on the bottle doesn’t do anything much, especially
the lemon scent, but more on that later. The
whole point of Tilex is removing mold and mildew, and we have to admit that
it does that very well. This product
works on most materials found in the bathroom such as tiles, tubs, sinks,
caulk, grout and synthetic stone. Plastic
and vinyl items can also be applied with this solution.
Just spray Tilex on surfaces in dire
need of mold freedom, and wait for 24 hours.
A few minutes doesn’t really do it.
Afterwards, all a person has to do is wipe off the remaining stains.
It sounds fairly simple, but there
really is more to this product, and it’s pretty much downhill from here.
It’s quite funny that taking care of one’s health is a
major reason for removing mold and mildew.
It’s funny because, most of the products out there that effectively
do this have the potential to negate that purpose.
Tilex Mold and Mildew remover is no
exception. Bleach is a very harsh
chemical. At the very least, it discolors clothes and other surfaces it was
not meant to be used on. Worst case
scenario? Bleach could even be
lethal. When not careful with Tilex, the effects are somewhere in the
middle. Even if applied in a well
ventilated room, the fumes from the product can cause coughing fits, severe
dizziness, and headaches. It
really isn’t advisable to use Tilex in non ventilated areas.
Using a surgical mask is a minimum
requirement when venturing forth with Tilex as a weapon against mold.
Also, don’t get it on your skin,
rinse immediately if this happens.
Another problem is that this product only works on a
shallow level. It may be a little
disconcerting to discover the presence of mold even after a few
applications. This means the nasty
fungi has taken root under the material. In that case, Tilex also offers a
root penetrator, but if you already have difficulty with the concerns
mentioned, then it’s probably best to forego the Tilex line completely.
Sure, they work on mold most of the
time, but they don’t offer a permanent solution.
Your mold will eventually grow back.
