X-14 Mold and Mildew Cleaner
Often, getting rid of mold can feel like an uphill battle.
Mold contamination can be pretty resilient against standard cleansing
products and techniques, which may leave you with rooms full of stubborn
fungi and a whole lot of frustration.
Mindful that perhaps you need a stronger mixture of chemicals to get
the job done, the enterprising folks at the WD-40 Company decided to
manufacture a product they call the X-14 Mold and Mildew Cleanser, billeted
to wipe out even the worst of mold stains and residue.
Using bleach as its active ingredient, X-14 claims that it can
actually remove the stains without the need to scrub, and keep stains from
returning for up to two weeks afterwards.
This is admittedly, a rather heavy claim, especially since other
“no-scrub” products have necessitated a bit of scrubbing to work the
chemical into the blemishes.
Skeptical about this claim, review testers decided to try it out for
themselves. One of them actually
used it to attempt to clean a garage shower that had been used as a laundry
box and as a litter box for the cat, as well.
The results were nothing short of astounding.
After just one application without any scrubbing, X-14 clearly
eradicated much of the stains, with only a thin, barely noticeable film
remaining. With a second
application, again foregoing the scrubbing, the mold stains were completely
wiped out. The stains
disappeared so quickly, in fact, that the reviewer was unable to position
her camera properly to catch the X-14 in action.
Other reviewers are similarly pleased with the effect of X-14 on
their stains, noting that it performed admirably in all but the most severe
cases of lingering mold, and even then it did demonstrate some level of
effectiveness. The potency of
X-14 may have to do with the strength of its formula, which is 60 percent
more concentrated than other similar products that are up for sale.
It does emanate a strong smell, and one reviewer did mention that,
when the X-14 ended up on her hands accidentally, they ended up smelling
like bleach until the next day, even after several washings.
As a precaution then, it is recommended that one wear gloves before
spraying the X-14 on the offending mold, and open up a few windows, with an
electric fan blowing, so that the smell won’t settle indoors and stay inside
for long.
The X-14 solution is supposed to be used for various hard, non-porous
surfaces, which include bathroom tiles, fibreglass and vinyl showers, bath
mats and shower curtains, plastic garbage cans, and grout.
It also works well on exterior surfaces, such as concrete, awnings,
swimming pool liners and masonry.
Metal may be out of the question, though, as the instructions warn
that rust stains may form.
The verdict is that X-14 is resoundingly recommended for being true to its
advertising, as one of the strongest and most effective mold and mildew
cleansers on the market today.
By removing the hassle of scrubbing the gunk away and requiring little more
than a single rinse with some water to wash away the residue, X-14 has
proven to be a valuable tool in the arsenal against mold contamination.
